01

Day 1 or morning of travel

Arrive in Athens

Fly into Athens International Airport (ATH – Eleftherios Venizelos). From the airport, take the Metro Line 3 (Blue) toward the city centre, or take a taxi. Journey to central Athens or Piraeus takes 35–50 minutes.

💡 If you are heading directly to the ferry, take the Metro to Monastiraki and transfer to Line 1 (Green) toward Piraeus. Total: about 50 min.

02

Allow 30 min travel time

Go to Piraeus Port

Piraeus is the main ferry hub for the Saronic islands. Metro Line 1 (Green) terminates at Piraeus station, which is a short walk from the ferry gates. There are multiple ferry companies operating from here.

💡 Ferries to Aegina depart from Gates E7–E9. Look for signs to 'Σαρωνικός' (Saronic).

03

35 min (hydrofoil) – 70 min (regular ferry)

Take the Ferry to Aegina

Regular ferries and high-speed hydrofoils run throughout the day. Hydrofoils (Flying Dolphins) are faster and more expensive. Regular ferries are cheaper and allow you on deck with views.

💡 Book your ferry ticket in advance during summer. Check Hellenic Seaways or e-ferry.gr for schedules.

04

15–20 min from Aegina Town

Reach Agia Marina

From Aegina Town port, take a local bus (KTEL) or a taxi to Agia Marina. The road takes about 15–20 minutes across the island. In peak summer season, some ferries also stop directly at Agia Marina port.

💡 Ask at the port or check the ferry timetable, a direct Piraeus to Agia Marina service runs seasonally.

Getting Around on the Island

From Aegina Town

Local buses (KTEL Aegina) run regularly between Aegina Town and Agia Marina. Cheap, easy, and the most common option for visitors without a car.

Taxis

Taxis are available at the Aegina Town port and can take you directly to Agia Marina. Agree on the price before departure or confirm the meter is running.

Car, Scooter & Quad Rental

Several rental shops operate at and near the port. Renting gives you full freedom to explore the island during your stay. Recommended for stays of 3+ days.

Bicycle

Aegina is manageable by bicycle for shorter distances. The road to Agia Marina is hilly, so this works best for fit travellers or e-bikes.

Travel Tips

Book Ferries in Advance

Especially in July and August. Summer ferries fill up on weekends. Mid-week departures are generally easier to find.

Direct Ferry to Agia Marina

Seasonal direct ferries from Piraeus stop at Agia Marina port, check current timetables before your trip. This saves the bus or taxi from Aegina Town.

Return Journey

Plan your return ferry. Last ferries from Aegina can be earlier than expected in low season. Check the return schedule when you book your outward trip.

Luggage

If you have large bags, the regular (slow) ferry is more comfortable than the hydrofoil for the crossing. There is plenty of deck space and it is a pleasant journey.
